Providing Shelter and Love to Dogs and Cats

Cat Stretching on Sheets

At Charlotte Sheltered Souls Animal Rescue, we welcome visitors to come and spend time with our adorable dogs and cats. It's a great opportunity to interact with the animals and learn about their stories while they await their forever homes.

Learn more about our mission and the impact we make in the lives of homeless animals. Discover the different ways you can support our cause and make a difference in the community.

Your generous donations play a vital role in providing food, shelter, and medical care to the animals in our care. With your support, we can continue to rescue and rehabilitate more dogs and cats in need.

Dog Walker at the Park

We believe that the adoption of an animal should bring joy an excitement into the reality of adding a member to the family.

Therefore, we want to make the process and easy as possible.

  1. We ask that you please fill out an adoption application. We do not respond to social media messages wanting to adopt.

  2. Please look at our current adoptable animals

  3. If you are interesting in fostering a dog, please fill out this form.

  4. If you are interested in fostering a cat, please fill out this form.

  5. In full disclosure, the animals in our rescue have mostly unknown backgrounds. We recommend the 3-3-3 rule of adoption for both dogs and cats.

  6. We strive to adopt out animals to forever homes but sometimes things do not work out the way we plan. In the event that you may need to rehome or return your adopted pet, we will ALWAYS take our animals back.

A few things to note:

  • It is okay that you rent and live in an apartment. We believe that where you live should not determine whether or not you are capable of owning an animal.

    • We do ask that you check with the terms of your lease before applying to adopt. If you do rent, we will be contacting the landlord and/or rental company to make sure pets are allowed.

  • We do not require a fenced-in back yard in most cases

    • There are certain dogs that we may adopt out that are flight risks and in this case, we would definitely require a fenced-in yard.

  • If you have other animals in the home, we require a meet and greet before adopting. This is designed to ensure the best possible outcome for your new pet and your resident pet.

  • All resident animals need to be up to date on vaccines and spayed or neutered.

  • All animals are available on a first come, first serve basis. Foster parents always first dibs on adopting their foster animal.

  • We do not believe in de-clawing cats. In fact, it is super inhumane. Our adoption policy states that every cat that is adopted from us will not be declawed.

  • We do adopt out of state. We believe that the perfect adopters may not be local to NC/SC and that is okay!

  • All animals will be up to date on vaccines and spayed or neutered before being adopted.
